In this case, we are discussing ๐๐ข๐๐ข๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐ง. Bicillin is a penicillin antibiotic that is ONLY given intramuscularly. This medication comes with a ๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ข๐ซ ๐ช๐๐ฅ๐ก๐๐ก๐ that IV administration can be associated with cardio respiratory arrest and death. Therefore, always remember Bicillin is given as deep IM injection only.
๐ฆ Bacterial infections such as:
ใฐ๏ธ Group A Streptococcus (strep throat)
ใฐ๏ธRheumatic Fever, Prophylaxis
ใฐ๏ธSyphillis
๐600,000 units/1mL syringe
๐1.2 million units/2mL syringe
๐2.4 million units/4mL syringe
๐ง๐ฝOlder children and adults: in the dorsogluteal or ventrogluteal โ depending on your facility policies
๐ถ๐ปInfants and small children: Vastus Lateralis
โ๏ธHypersensitivity to any penicillins as this can lead to severe anaphylaxis
โ๏ธRenal impairment
โช๏ธClostridium difficile (C. diff) โthis can occur after any antibiotic use due to the altering effect of the normal flora in the colon leading to overgrowth of C. diff in the gut.

โช๏ธPain at injection site โsite of injection will be very sore.
